The Interview
I have realized that quantitative data proves a point with statistics however when it comes to qualitative data such as interviews, the experiences and wisdom can come to speak even louder than statistics. Therefore, I decided to interview a well-known women rights advocate and a professor at the Kuwait university.
How do female leaders culturally based personal experiences influence their leadership?
“i think that personal experience creates a sense of wisdom around the subject, so I think that as a woman in leadership I would choose to present my point without bringing up any experiences to avoid impacting or creating a bias, however I would choose to assert my point clearly and bring up statistics or examples to use my leadership to solve these issues.”
How do female leaders culturally based professional experiences influence their leadership?
“Personally, when I was invited to speak up about these issues on a television program, I realized that the workers behind the camera were so focused on the host that happened to be a man, that I was completely out of frame; and I when I told them about it he mentioned that I was a just there for “eye candy”. I immediately addressed the issue to the director and when I went back to the university I teach at the next day; I immediately told my friend who is a representative in parliament that she needs speak up about respect specifically in the workplace, in hopes that there would be a restriction or law regarding this issue.”
What do you think is the next step to overcome barriers of women leadership?
“I think that the government can improve in terms of continuing to set laws that prohibit women to take their place in the parliament; however other than politics, we need to continue showing female representation for the coming generations and spread awareness until we are not seen as a minority in the workplace.”
